Zoolander's Styling Goo...

I've been sitting on this image for a month or so... The Show was out in L.A. at gallery 1988. I was unable to attend when the show opened at the beginning of January, and didn't find time to get out west to see it at all. Thankfully, two great people named Melinka Thompson-Godoy and Cheryl Elliott saw the show for me. They braved the congested L.A. traffic, saw the show and even sent me some spiffy photos by way of my lovely lady.

The show was called "Is This Thing On?", and served as a tribute to actors, comedians, and all around funny people that make us laugh...
I drew Ben Stiller as my subject, and took two the movies I'd known him best for and cobbled them into this image of Derek Styling a woman's hair using a special "product" (al a "Something about Mary") for a styling gel. I was pretty happy with the finished work. I even went so far as to gob some clear gloss medium onto the work surface to mimic the... Well, you can figure it out.

I was thrilled to be a part of the show and hope they invite me back...I've got some show pieces already brewing for 2011. I'm looking forward to a big year of shows..

Portrait of Self

I started a little office project today that required a drawing of myself. All things considered I'd prefer to have funnier caricatures of myself... But I will say that I liked this figure that I'm using for the animation. It's actually a decent current representation of me...
Thinning in the hair, tiny eyes, glasses, lots of gray hair, some sideburns, with a beard and mustache minus the little spot right under my nose (because I don't grow any hair on that part of my face)..
I exaggerated the beard a bit, but I'm sure it will grow into that shape again in the next couple of months..
I'd sure like to get back into some caricatures..See if I can't get better at observing people and doing wild things with there facial attributes.... But, for now...this is me..

Long Damn Day...

Some people in my building had a party of some kind today... At first I believed it was a party on the floor above with very loud music. However, as the day wore on there were lots of voices and other BS and the music increased in volume.... I did go upstairs to ask for a little quiet on my lazy home bound Saturday, and was treated to a very limited reduction of the volume... People running up and down the stairwell all damn day, I'm not very happy. It stopped for a while around 7pm when I had dinner, and I enjoyed two hours of relative calm before they fired up the music maker at around 9:3o...
I think the party is finally over now...just before midnight... I live in a building full of people and I just am baffled by how inconsiderate some people are...

I was upstairs twice today to ask them to turn down the music, and its testing my fragile patience...

Sigh...
I'm gonna get some adult beverages now...

YEAR OF THE RABBIT..

I'd not posted anything today.... That's just criminal, My art is in need of improvement, so I'm gonna push out a drawing... In fact, I even dared to open Illustrator (a program which I'm Horrible with) and pushed out this little bit o' fluff... Drawn in illustrator with a few brushes, then ported to Photoshop to color a bit, color correct, and texture while at the same time patch up a few things in the drawing..

Fit to Print

I was out a few weeks back to do a Sketch crawl with some friends.
I had a hard time deciding if I should focus on doing studies of the artwork, or the people at the museum. We drew for a few hours, had a relatively expensive outing in the museum cafe, and here are some of the images that my time yielded.

Loose Leaf

I've had a few sheets of paper floating around my desktop at home (draw on them when I don't wanna focus on the screen), However ince I don't have a scanner there I hauled it into the office. All so I could snag a few images to share with you on the first o' FEB..
My recent kick of drawing heads and faces seems to be ongoing...Lots to play with in a very contained area of the body...

Some scribbles...

I spent part of my day tinkering on new paints...er....kinda old sketches that I've decided to dive back into for various reasons...
I find that sometimes I talk myself out of pursuing projects from strange reasons...either I don't like the sketch, or the colors don't come to me....Or I simply get frustrated with my control of the paper, pen, tablet, ect. Sometimes I even get gun shy with the content, I avoid it because its difficult, or not to my taste...or its just plain dull.
In all truth though, I really need to be running headlong into those kinds of projects. It seems like when I was younger that starting new work was more free because I new less about the visual medium. But, after years I've noticed it harder to get things started on images sometimes, and more critically its harder to stick with them long enough to give them the attention they warrant to be Completed works.

I'm gonna have to work on that...

These sketches will be up again soon as I progress with the studies...

A Chill in the air...

I'm still feeling kinda lousy but, I managed to drag my rear into work today. In spite of the NY Snowfall no less. I have to say it was a very pretty walk to the office this morning...all the snow lends a wonderful ethereal quality to the city.

My scribble from today kinda stems from Professor Coldheart I think. Or possibly some kinda Ice King type.. Regardless He's a little bit of Frosty chill in my drawing day.

From some months back...

I'm not sure why I'd opted to do this thing last year. I'd seen a few of them out and though that it'd be a good way for me to look at some of the things that influence my work and drawings. But, I remember that as I worked on it I realized how hard it was for me to condense my Influences down to one specifically formatted page.

In large part my problems sprung from having too many influential sources, and also from the fact that my tastes vary from time to time... I dunno. I remember thinking that you could do one of these every few months and it would be different.. I wonder what it would look like if I'd done one in college, or even 4 years ago... I imagine it'd be different... But, for now I'll pull this out of mothballs and share my..

Elephant King

I sketched an elephant this morning in CS3 (which I've been using for the past several years now. This afternoon however I painted it a bit more, but with CS5...
YEP, I got upgraded, and I'm trying to adjust to the change... its serving to alter my workflow a great deal..

Exploring New Palettes..

I liked the profile on this lady I drew here. So I'm sharing it... I've seen women before with very pronounced brows and foreheads, and it makes for interesting drawings..
Beyond that I'm trying to use a wider palette of colors now and in the future... Will see if this is a step in the right direction..

Bean Man!

Just posting before I leave the office for the day....
Been very busy this week. Lots of digital painting on this comic project that sprang up in my department, perhaps I'll be able to share some of it when it launches. For now I'm pumped to do some painting and drawing on my three day weekend. Now lets I can carry that trend on through the weekend...or If I'm gonna sleep in and knock about the apartment.

2011, things I will shoot for...

I make images.

Some good, some bad, and others are just studies that crop up in my mission to be better at my craft while making a name for myself among you all (my peers) in the art community...

I'm not sure what I'll do with my year of 2011, But its a year flush with options and ripe with potential.

A.)I'm shooting to reboot the website. Gogopedrodotcom will rise again.

B.)March Modok Madness is alive and well in 2011!

C.)I plan to do more showpieces in the new year. I've made some good gallery contacts in the last year and hope I can parley that into more invitations in the future..

D.)I hope to get all over my figure drawing efforts, and possibly take some classes to build new skills.

E.)I also think I'm gonna post more on this here Blog. I'd toyed with the idea that I'd done something like 400 posts in the last four years... So I wondered if i could do 400 posts..in one year...

F.)I'm considering throwing together a book (but, I'm unsure if people would want to buy something like that in these economic times).

I think I can, but I hope you'll all come by and visit me while I'm at it..

Holiday Card 2010...

I've had a hectic couple of days leading up to this holiday, and I wasn't even sure I'd have time to do one of these.... But, after a little personal peer pressure and some tough love I was able to knock out some form of holiday greeting...

Mustache Charity ACHEIVEMENT...

Here's the final Mustaches for Kids inspired Sketch I had on hand... I wanna thank everyone that got involved in the giving spirit of the season. The fund raising for the last four weeks helped add to a nationwide total of almost 220K for underfunded public schools. It feels good to give to needy school students and teachers and I look forward to being a part this all again next year..

I dunno what this means, but this year might be the first time I don't break 100 posts within a 12 month period.. Perhaps, my work flow has changed a bit with my current situation. However, I've got some sketches and odds and ends laying about that I'll probably send out here in the following days. ANother Ol' Sketch..

I'm sitting on a small stockpile of old things I've not posted in the last month. Due to my relocation here in the city, I just didn't have time to share much. This little lady was drawn using some web reference of a woman with a rather abstract looking nose. I enjoyed painting it, though I can't be certain that the photo I was working from wasn't already manipulated.

400!?!

Wow, I though I'd have gotten to this faster. But things continue to be pretty chaotic for me of late...But, I'm seeing a light at the end of the tunnel, and hope that my life gets back to a more regular flow in the coming weeks...

Its funny that I've knocked out about 400 posts in the last three years or so.... I wonder what the next year holds...Maybe I'll try to post four hundred times in one year?

I'm in a tight spot at the moment...I drew this little guy a few weeks back when I got some bad news... I moved past it, sorted things out, and felt like I was almost out of the hard spot. But, sadly today I was hit with a new bit of bad news...
