Underground Gentically Altered Combat Trained Reptile..

So,

I'm back from a whirlwind vacation around the L.A. area.  Getting back into some posting and sharing of artwork here on the blog.  CTNx certainly was daunting, and inspirational.
Found this scribble of Leonardo and figured it was a good one to put up here and share.  Took a different approach to the Photoshop too.  I look to having drawings that are more narrative in the coming posts.
Beyond that I'm just trying to ramp up my workflow again.  Shooting for some new goals and such.

Hope you all dig,
P

Splinter is a Radical Rat....

Here's some quick color on another TMNT sketch I passed over for that recent show...
I drew Splinter quite a bit and found myself really interested in the character. I see that he might be kinda dull at an initial glance, But when you start to consider that he trained ALL of the turtles. You get this clear picture that he has the ability to throw down and be a total bad ass, he just chooses not to and this makes him a great sage type character.
The wise Teacher, who has knowledge and skills along with the wisdom to use those assets intelligently.

I like that concept. I'd really like to have the equivalent of that in my artwork... Really powerful visualization skills and rendering techniques. With the clear headedness to use them smartly on my work. I've been thinking about going back to school of some sort lately, so maybe this is influencing my thinking too on a subconscious level.

Perhaps I'll meditate on these thoughts later this evening...stay cool everyone.
Hope you dig.

THE CHORES OF NAMING...

"Splinter Searches for Baby Names"
Pen and Colored Pencil on Craft Paper.

I had lots of idea's for this Show.... Sketched, discarded, considered, and debated over what route I'd take in Tribute to the TMNT that I grew up with. In the end my final idea was similar to my first one... I like Splinter.. But, with the evolution of the work I found A very funny idea that I kinda latched onto...

I hope you Dig the work... and wanna thank everyone for making last nights show...AWESOME!!..

Partrolling the ROOFTOPS...

Donatello, was/is my favorite turtle.
However, this is yet another drawing I passed over for my final showpiece. I do like the pose, and the composition so I figured that I'd share it with you all. I'm excited to be a part of this show tonight.

Above is a little snippet of my final show work..it just so happens to be a baby turtle... Stay tuned to the blog for the full image which I'll post tomorrow after the show's opening is concluded..

Hope you dig.

Enemies with Fearsome Helmets and Pauldrons lined with blades...

Here's a Shred-head sketch that I passed on while brainstorming on the TMNT SHOW... Liked the shapes I was playing with though.. Though I'd share it with you all. I cropped out some of the surrounding image I'd planned, and stuck with the groovy profile shapes his helmet can make... I think the original image Idea was him interrogating splinter...From the first live action movie...

Hope you dig...

Into the Sewers...

Another bit of sketching from the upcoming show... My indecision seemed to know no bounds on this projects....lots of drawings set aside, and some others just straight up discarded... Here's one of them. Michelangelo on some spotted blue Background..

Hope you Dig,

Dark Crystal styled ROCKSTEADY!!

So..I'm working through the tough spots right now... I've been challenging myself with new projects in an overall attempt to push my Illustration skills while at the same time searching for my personal style, an method of making images...

Thankfully I've had the good fortune of falling into a membership with the Autumn Society of Philadelphia. The group is full of talented members that have been quite inspirational. The almost unending schedule of upcoming gallery shows has offered me with limitless opportunities to try new things, and explore a wide variety of content.
Moreover, I've gotten to make friends and network with some of the society members, which has parlayed into some exciting new chances to share my work while enjoying the work of other talented folks...

Currently, I'm ramped up for a Ninja Turtles themed show with the ASOP. I'll even make it out to Philly for the opening later this week. I must admit its pretty staggering to see the caliber of work that's being turned out for this show.. I only hope that my images are going to impress the other artists as much as they're work has impressed me.

For now though here is a discarded drawing from my mighty heap of TMNT themed artwork for this show... A little bit of ROCKSTEADY with some Skeksis type anatomy thrown in, Terrifying stuff. I spent a lot of time sketching prior to this show and its left me with some fun sketches that I'm not using for final work...but I wanted to bring them to you all so that you might scope them out... Also, Check out the ASOP to see some of the other great work that will be on display this JUNE 3!.

Hope you dig...

Quest for Fire....

I'm plugging away here...I've weeded though a small stack of drawings, notes, and ideas and am closing in on what will be my finalized TMNT showpiece. Narrowing things down can be very hard sometimes... I struggle with the fact that one idea will become finished art, while others just get deposited in the round file here at my office... However, with the blog I have the benefit of being able to share stuff with you that probably wouldn't see the light of day otherwise...
So, expect some of my discard images and sketches here in the coming weeks leading up to the show while I wrap up my artwork for the main even on June 3.
Here's a simple Turtle Head. Raphael, perhaps...

Hope you dig...

UPSET UTROM!

I kinda figured Krang would be super angry if I drew his little his little mobility tripod like a hibachi... He looks plenty miffed to me... I'm still sketching and brainstorming a bit for the actual piece right now. I've got a few solid image Ideas, but, am waiting a day or so to see if anything else creative pops into my noggin. Sometimes choosing content for a showpiece can be challenging.. Lots of ideas, and very little time don't always mix.. Stay tuned...more to come...

Hope you dig,

Four Green Dudes in Masks...

Getting Warhol vibes lately, and "Yeah" I recycled a drawing. But, it seemed like innocent fun at the time, and I was liking the results... Regardless, I'm sure to be doing more drawings this weekend...so check back in soon.!..

Hope you all dig, and have a good weekend.

ONE More TIME.

Oy!,
Oddly enough I drew this the same night i drew the previous Krang. So my buddy "Smo", must have telepathic abilities....
I agree with him and Brendan in the respect that the original Krang sorta remined me of "Blaster" from "Thunderdome". I dunno about you but I cried when Ironbar (the guys real name is "Angry" I am not shitting you) shot him in the guts with the crossbow.....so sad.
Kinda like this drawing..... I messed with the arms from the original Sharpie drawing....I just hated how they turned out so, without drawing new ones I made modifications.....

I can imagine Krang's evil little laugh right now. Good times.
take care,
P

UTROM for a friend.

Here is KRANG. So loveable.... I noodled him late a few nights back with a sharpie. I think I saw Dagan do a better version of this Krang some time back. But, this was still Fun,

I imagine him saying "WHEERREEE IS MY BODY??"

He's Radical Rat.

Hey all Here is another gem from that sketch night in L.A. a few weeks back.
He is indeed off model, so throw stones if you must. But, its justa sketch....and I was probably hopped up on coffee at that point in the evening.

Grey Splinter just makes me grouchy. Keep him Brown.
