BruisePatrol: Day Five

Look at all the pretty colors.
Shot this image five days after the injury. And right now it actually looks worse, I just don't wanna take it out of the splint to snap a shot.
Seeing the Orthopedics guy today was not fun at all...the dude (DR.Torquemada, as far As I am concerned) prodded, twisted, squeezed, and stretched my poor ankle. All so that he could tell me what I kinda already knew. The bruising is actually getting a little richer hue in a few spots. Because of the visit. Furthermore some of the swelling and pain has returned....FUN!!...

So, I'll be in the cast and crutches for a few weeks....the ligature on the outside of my ankle, is all torn up.

Wish me luck...

BATTERED BEAR...

FINALLY, GOT THAT IMAGE!!!

Hey all,

Today I am older. I've been on the planet for some time now but realize that there is still much that I haven't experienced. So, a few nights back I gave myself the experience of serious personal injury.

While running in a quest for better personal fitness I jammed my foot into a gopher hole at the side of the running path and twisted up my ankle. The Vital joint made a sound like wet celery being twisted. I came close to breaking it and though that I might have but after some X-rays and about six hours in the E.R. I found it was a severe sprain (which is bruising nicely now) and the doctors recommended it be immobilized.

So, I hobble now on crutches, I am bad at it. However its a new experience....I think this is the worst injury I've ever sustained. Short of a few Broken hearts and the occasional bruised ego.. For this I am thankful, because with my diminished mobility I realize how much I've taken simple acts of walking, or standing for granted.

I have an image to go with this post I'll put it up soon.

Thanks for keeping in touch everybody.

Sincerely,

Pedro

ZOOdles!!

What do you get when you mix?:
-The Bronx Zoo
-Add one overly humid hot and miserably sticky Saturday
-With one horrifically Pale (prone to the sunburnin') Artist and his trusty clipboard,
-Toss in a dash of pencils, and a smattering of paper that's misbehaves because its all damp and moist from the air.
-Sprinkle in the urge to do some doodles with friends at the Zoo, and you get.....

STEAMING HOT BRONX ZOODLES!

I was there about a week back with some A.C. folks. Thanks to Natalie Butler for her organization of this. Also Props to Brendan Tobin for Milling about in the summer heat and keeping conversation lively whilst drawing.
Hope you dig....support your ZOO!

ADDITIONAL MURAL FALLOUT.

A few posts back I mentioned the Mural design and stuff that I did through work. Yes, My parents are thrilled and I think they told my whole family about it. But beyond that, I am exceedingly happy that I had the opportunity to do something I love, which was then in turn put towards something positive.

So yesterday I was kinda surprised when I got a call from the Office P.R. Department, saying that Creative Magazine wanted to ask me some questions related to these designs..
I spoke with Kunur Patel for about five or ten minutes. About the work, the event, and whatever else I felt like rattling on about (really should have prepped some notes). After that the then rattled out the nice little article found here.
GREY TAKES DESIGN TO THE CURB.

STINKY BEAR..

YEAH YOU'LL Stink too if you spend too much time outside in this heat...
MR. BEAR here is particularly sick of smelling smelly trash in the big city and sweating into his hairy bear carcass. Feels like a humidor when ya' step outdoors.

He'll have to make a change....a BIG CHANGE.

MR. MURAL

As promised yesterday here are the originals to the mural photos posted below.
Also here are a few others. It was getting hard not to over complicate them. Because they'd need to be reproduced in mass by a wide group of artists, and assistants.

I think the interlocking recycling rings where my personal faves.
All of these where cranked out in Flash.
Enjoy...more art soon.

GIVE by the POUND!

So,

I had a partial day at work today. We had this (GREY GIVES) community works function planned through the agency to beautify the southern end of HIGHBRIDGE PARK. Some weeks back I'd submitted a few mural ideas for this project. I'd heard a few of them where selected. But, I didn't know this was happening with them.
1,900-FOOT CANVAS!!
Three murals I submitted wound up being selected for as a repeated pattern down a stretch of the high bridge bike path (photos to come).. More astounding then this was that I saw my name in the NY Times (blush). Other then that I was doing some murals that where presented to a local public school show below.

Even Weirder still is that the Shirt I am wearing in that photo won me a little prize for best shirt design of the day. Too Bad your too far away to see. I will share it on down the road. I wanna try to make another one first.

I coulda' spent all day on these murals but, am exceedingly thankful that I had all the assistance from team #16 to crank them out in a little under 3 hours. I will post up the original images I submitted for the mural judgings tomorrow, along with a few others that didn't make the cut.

In the end I painted, chatted up some of my friendly co-workers, publicly danced like a fool, won a t-shirt design contest, and planted small bushes in the occasional patch of poison ivy..all while almost falling down a hill..... It was an awesome day.

Hope your all well,

Thanks for checking in...I promise more art in the next post.

MUSKETEERS

Three of them no less.

No characters in particular. Simply throwing some colors down over sketches I did whilst watching that weird Disney Musketeers flick, some days back...

You know the one with Keifer Sutherland, Martin Sheen, and Oliver Platt.
Check that flick out at your own peril...however I will hand it to Tim Curry for Reprising his roll as Villain with the most appropriate voice for his portrayal of Cardinal Richelieu.

The man makes a good Villain.
