They're characters from a series of samurai movies released back in the seventies....sadly i can't recall the actors names.

That's interesting. I had thought the comic book was the original source. I'll have to check out the movies.
yeah, Its a Chicken and egg kinda thing. I dunno which one is first..
But the movies have been fun so far.
