VisualVOMIT!

So I haven't posted much lately. Works been busy, I've been out enjoying the world and the company of good people, while all the while shooting out fiddly lil' drawings, on odd scraps o' paper....I committed some of these throw away drawings to my first installment of VISUAL VOMIT! basically a post where I chuck down some crud..... and in this case add a bit o' color... I've also been thinking a lot about some art stuff that I'll probably post up here in the near future but for now...I will assault your eyeballs..

LOST and UNDERGROUND...

So, I've posted almost nothing this month...
I dunno whats going on lately..
I'm recovering from some dental work and I really have been slacking off on my drawing and painting a little... and otherwise I've been a little listless..
Then, last night I saw a great movie.....the image should give you some clue as to what the picture was.....
It reminded me why I why I make art...So check back in during MAY!

Fear the Gearaffe!

My buddy Antonio Romero, has been working on independent comic projects for some time....Recently he's endeavored to stepp up his efforts and be even more prolific with his work, he's devoting lots of time to the endeavor. Very commendable...
He'd asked me sometime back if I'd contribute an image based on any of the characters from his book Super Duper Ham. I chose to render out this sketch of the Gearaffe, essentially a giraffe in a giant mech suit...AMAZING...I love him so much...

Thanks to Antonio for this great character.. It was a lot of fun to paint...

Here's another quick facial study, this time I worked from a very small image of George Petty, the artist famed for his creation of the Petty "Pin Up" Girl.

I had a rough time finding a decent photo to work from but it still wound up being a bit of good fun...

MUCHA!!

I had a little off time, while waiting on an assignment so I figured I'd do a quick study of one of my artistic heroes. Alphonse Maria Mucha, I've got little bits of his work around my apartment and my workspace and I'll probably always dig his stuff...I had a tough time landing some good reference images but, think that it came out alright.. Beyond that I was kinda surprised to find out that his face seemed very familiar to a friend of mine, and I dunno if that was good or bad for the overall outcome....would like to do more of these and some more caricatures... JEEZE I wanna take some classes..

Zatoichi!!!

Here's another caricature....
He's Shintaro Katsu!, Star of many Japanese films from the 60's and 70's...I was watching these on Netflix for while and really enjoy the character...and the actor...

Pretty strange guy, but very believable as the blind masseur, who wanders feudal japan with a heightened sense of awareness and the ability to wield a blade with incredible deftness....

I think the text I put in there means "I can hear (see) you"..... I've forgotten now...

OFF THE WAGON, ON THE WAGON, and UNDER THE WAGON....

SO, with the holidays fast approaching I'm again confronted with the cold facts that I'm kinda disorganized while also being prone to veering off task. Under this current regime of working weekends, holidays, and (the newly added) Chiropractic Visits my blog has suffered a little...

It's today that I choose to rectify this error and share a little with the people who deem this blog fit to look at. It's a visualization of a local comic artist I've heard of.... He's a friend of a friend, and I have to say I really dig his work...The man's name...REX TARKLETON...
