MR.T PUMPKIN!! (I'd probably carve this myself If I was carving this year..)
I received a call from my father and my brother this week regarding Halloween pumpkin designs... Sadly, I've not carved one in some years (just not practical here in my NY abode), but I'm always thinking about it around this time o' year... I sent them about a dozen rough designs... Here are a few that I though were pretty solid..
Hope you dig..

I'm wrapping up for the day here at the office... Still tinkering with Illustrator... This is another illustrator/photoshop hybrid image. Have a lot to learn yet about texture applications and stuff in illustrator yet... I'll keep on working at it though, and try not to get too discouraged when it's being difficult.
Hope you dig.

Triceradon
Meet Triceradon, a dinosaur who was truly before his time... Believe it or not he was naturally radioactive... which gave him a bioluminescent quality, which wound up being very useful in dark swamps were this dino would often hide in order to avoid big predators. Furthermore his glow attracted giant Prehistoric swamp insects which were in fact a mainstay of the Triceradon's diet...

Puff and Stuff!!
I've always called them "Blowfish". I suppose mainly because the face of these fish made me think they were blowing out birthday candles on a cake or something like that... I guess the proper name for the fish species know as Tetraodontidae truly is difficult to nail down...
I was assigned a the job of drawing one a few days back and came to find a bunch of different names for the guy... Everything from Balloon fish, to Porcupinefish to Puffer fish, tons of nicknames... So, since this drawing wasn't used at all I figured I'd color it and share it with you all here at the blog... So that you might all hang out with this globefish, who's name just so happens to be Constance...
Hope you dig.

Staggosaur
The research of dinosaurs was shocked recently to find that there was an even later period of dinosaurs that possibly had contact with humans...
They found a skeleton deep within the desert and have called it...The Staggosaur(see skilled artists recreation above).
Shockingly the recently exhumed skeleton has a skull that was almost nine inches thick in all directions. with a brain cavity big only enough to house a few pellets of bird shot. It is believed that he might have wandered into the desert in search of water.

Toccata & Ewe in D Minor..
I've not messed about much with Adobe Illustrator in a long time... I remember back when I was Teaching Cont. Ed back in Detroit that I'd used some of my comp pay to take a reduced price seat in a 12 session course on the program... I remember getting a handle on some of the aspects and then we got into advanced functions of the Gradient Mesh tool. Then my head just collapsed...
None the less I'm starting to dig back into the program... I'm so comfortable with Photoshop, that its both trying, and rewarding at the same time to branch out... Regardless I've been getting more Illustrator assignments and I need to sharpen my skill set in Vector Graphics...
This sheep is the result of some early tinkering, though I'll admit I did a little stuff in photoshop prior to posting. Mainly, I added come color adjustment and textureing... I'll try to do some more of these in the future so that I can get some more practice in... If you can think of animals for me to tackle please drop me a post in the comments and I'll look into it.
Hope you dig.

Mr. Chinsworthy...
This guy has a vast jawline... Which isn't a surprise considering he bares the name Chinsworthy... He's wearing a snappy red shirt and a blueish grey suit... I threw some color onto it. I'm pretty happy with the outcome, and I'm looking forward to some more caricature in the coming months...
Hope you dig.

Bearded Seer...
He is a wise mystic type guy from the east... Perhaps a nomad of some great Desert, who sees the future in smoky candle light, and the shifting sands of an ancient hourglass he travels with. I was enjoying the pencil renderings that day, and decided I'd throw some color at it and share it with you here...
Hope you dig,

The more then Average Bear...
Get yourselves a Pic-A-Nic Basket and get lost before Ranger Smith finds out... It was a fun little image to draw out and throw some color onto... After having drawn it am sure there are some design flaws in the characters, but I don't always reach for a model sheet when I'm just knocking out some fun drawings...
Hope you dig.

BRIGHTLY COLORED FELTY FACE..
I scoped out the Jim Henson Exhibit at the MOMI (Museum of the Moving Image in Queens last weekend... It really was pretty slick to see all of the sketches boards and Puppets on display, for an up close and personal viewing... I found this image floating on an old page of scanned drawings and realized I don't always have enough HAPPY DRAWINGS. SO I colored this one up with a Muppets color pallet in mind and am sharing it with you now...
Take it easy.

OCTOBER, Time to KICK ASS.
I imagine that I was thinking of Dennis the Menace when I drew this but I guess I wound up thinking Frankenstein when I slapped the ol' color onto it... Seemed appropriate for the month of October. Got a few projects on deck and I'll keep sharing here on the blog. I've got about a hundred more posts to knock out before years end, wish me luck.

Iconoclastic Dead sketch...
I've already shown a few other images that sprang from early work on my Iconoclastic dead show work. This sketch was another particular favorite of mine in the early stages, and I Imagine that I'll come back to this image in the future. Really enjoying keyhole compositions and the style of Mucha images overall.
Hope you dig..

Dia De Los MUCHA!!
This will be up on the wall tonight at THE ICONOCLASTIC DEAD SHOW in Mexico City...!! It traveled quickly, and made it past customs!! I'm exceedingly happy that I was given a chance to participate with all the other great artists contributing to this tribute to our hero's by fashioning a Dia De Los Muertos themed image.
I've had Art Nouveau on the brain since a very early age... In fact the bathroom in my childhood home had (and still has) this fantastic Nouveau print wallpaper in it. Even before, I knew his name I KNEW I loved the work of ALPHONSE MUCHA. Something about the Graceful shapes, the colors, the LINEWORK!... I've been a fan since child hood and don't see that changing any time soon. For my image I tried for a Mucha inspired composition with a keyhole framing element. I'm incorporating autumn leaves, and bone motifs to, lend to a lot of the natural content that you'd find in Mucha's work. But, also I see an odd similarity in brilliant colors of the old dead leaves verses the faded hues of dried bones. In the process of making the final image I played with lots of designs and found that as I do more of these gallery shows, I have a cleaner though process about executing the artwork. Plus, I get new and creative ways to work through design issues and brainstorm. On the whole I'm proud of the final artwork, but also the workflow that led to its completion.
It was a really fun image to work on and I look forward to trying more of these in the future...
I'll close by thanking, Chogrin for bringing me onto the show. Gracias also to the Guru gallery and German for being very friendly in welcoming me. I hope this leads to more great shows in the future. I'll also thank my model Dayna for putting up with my shooting of some helpful photo reference.
Lastly, I'll thank Alphonse Mucha for being a constant source of inspiration and beauty for me to draw on and appreciate...
Hope you dig.
