Mini_Minimal MODOK

Another supremely small MODOK drawing with a dash of photoshop thrown in.
The image wound up with a big negative space up in the left hand corner do my drawing the plume of Kirby Krackle.  So, I fudged in a lasso tool illo of what MODOK might be saying he wants.  Possibly he want's to "OFF" a certain green hulking avenger.  Who knows.

Hope you dig,
P

MODOK on another ENVELOPE...

I had a small handfull of these drawn on envelopes.  Here again I think its the menacing cable company acting as a proper canvas for MODOK.  Again, I used a ballpoint pen (believe it was from a Holiday Inn) to hash the image out.
These are fun to doodle and paint up real quick. So I share them along here as this Month of MODOK winds down.

If you haven't yet, I also invite you on over to MarchMODOKMadness to see almost 8 years of assorted art in tribute to the mighty MODOK created by Jack Kirby.

Hope you dig,
P

Mini MODOK on a Envelope!

H.B.O. DOK!
Service charges!!!
MODOK found his way onto an Envelope again.  This time it was clearly something from a diabolically nefarious Internet provider.  So, it proved a perfect canvas for out mighty mental organism.  Doing some quick photoshop on these was also too hard to pass up.  So, I hope that you dig um.

Mind Blasts to the very last,

MINI MODOK on an Envelope...

MODOK, scribbled on an envelope with a ball-point pen.
I like drawing on little random scraps of paper.  I know this is not archival quality, or even intelligent most of the time.  But, It lets me draw loose and fun while utilizing whatever drawing surface I happen to have handy.  So I have some envelopes with some MODOKs on them to share over a few days.

Hope you dig,
P

Big thanks to MODOK (of course) and my blogging cohort Brendan Tobin.  They keep me coming back to this event every year.
Finally I must wish a mountain of thanks to all the artists who helped us hit the milestone! You all Rock.

Mini Minimal MODOK...

Another Mini (and minimal) MODOK for Tuesday afternoon.
Super duper tiny drawing in the margins of a page that had a lot of other not so MODOK drawings on it.  Used a felt tip pen on brown paper with dashes of Photoshop Color.

Have a great day wherever you are at.

Mindblasts Forever,
P

DON-KEH!
Happy St. Paddy's day to you all here visiting on the blog.
Figured I'd throw my yearly greenish MODOK up here to mark the seventeenth of March.  Clearly Ogre-Dok here is calling to his friend so that they can head over to the bar for a pint of stout.

Hope you are all having a happy sand safe holiday out there.  Will be back at it tomorrow.

Hail MODOK,

Minimal MODOK Mini...

I'm TINY!
I was drawing some MODOK in a bit of downtime during lunch today.  Black felt pen and a white pencil on some brown paper bag, because it's my favorite drawings surface.  I wasn't really feeling what I was cranking out, until this one emerged in the margin.  The drawing itself is maybe an inch and a half squared.  Proof that big MODOK mind blasting can come in any size.

I also have an art buddy of mine who says I've been a bit too heavy handed with Photoshop of late.
Here I've gone super duper sparse in his honor.

Hope you dig.
CONTINUE MIND BLASTING,
P

TWILIGHTING in the ZONE

6x6 "I can feel loneliness too.." Digital Print and Acrylic Transfer.

Hey all,

I'll just take a quick pause on all things March MODOK Madness related to show you something else entirely.  For the past three or four years I've been approached by the ladies of Eat Your Art Out (and the Angel City Derby Girls of Los Angeles) to create some artwork for various auctions.  I've really enjoyed the themes they usually send my way so I make them some stuff.  This year was Twilight Zone themed... So I got involved.

I'd seen an episode here and there in the past, most of them super memorable with great imagery and narrative.  So, in the interest of reigning in my overactive imagination, I watched the first season (36 episodes) and told myself to pick favorites and work on something from the top four or five episodes on my list.  It was hard to make a choice.  Those early episodes have some REALLY good stuff to work with and draw from.  But, I finally decided to make something based on the seventh episode, entitled, The Lonely".

The image came together pretty quickly after that, in spite of my obsessing over smaller details.  I kept the artwork small and relatively simple for the most part. My doing this was twofold, on the one hand I had to pay to ship it to L.A. in short order, and on the other hand I find that people seem to enjoy buying smaller pieces to hang on the wall.

For the most it's a digital collage with sketches and painting thrown in on top.  I pulled bits and bobs from the episode and am rather happy with how thing came out.  My digital transfer process was also pretty seamless this time around (I think I'm getting better at it) and the final artwork had a wonderful textured quality to it.  While the depth of the art board lets it cast a lovely shadow on the wall depending on the lighting.

It's about an inch deep off the wall.  Made for a lovely cast shadow.
In closing, if you are in L.A. tonight I suggest you check out the auction, Lots of great work to bid on.
Hope you dig,

P

MODOK WEEK ONE!

MODOK and the COSMICALLY COLORFUL CUBE

Keeping the momentum going forward this month... Lots of partially finished MODOK images in this folder for 2015 Lets see how much of it I can actually do.  Got a few special ones in the next week or so that I'm eager to share.
For now though, here is an image of MODOK taking a celestial trek with his beloved COSMIC CUBE.

Hope you dig,
P

On a sidenote, I'll say that a bulk of the heavy lifting here was me working back in forth in Photoshop.  Trying out some different stuff to see what was working, and what wasn't.  The sketch itself was rather small and pretty quick.  Red Col-Erase type pencil with some light layout lines (some of which i removed) to clear up the image a tad.  Just in case you wanna see where stuff like this starts for me.
WHERE IS MY COSMIC CUBE PUNY HUMAN!!

LASSO-DOK_001!

*THWIP! THWIP!
Got another Lasso tool MODOK for y'all.
It seems MODOK got this wacky Mojo/Spider Butt body some years back.
Personally I like the jet thruster/repulsor thing instead but I'm trying to embrace a more worldly appreciation for all things MODOK.
Here he's auditioning for a role in the next marvel film while channeling some spider-man.

Hope you dig,

LASSO-DOK!

I made this MODOK using the freehand Lasso tool from Photoshop as my primary weapon.
Some gradients, and clipping masks in there too.  Few quick filters.

Manual Monday MODOK.

Here's a little MODOK on MONDAY.
I tend to do a fair bit of Photoshop on some of my MODOK images, so here I'll try and share some stuff done with pen and pencils.  No digital mods outside of a slight contrast correction (due to the scan quality) and a watermark...

Hope you dig,

March MODOK Madness!

G.M.O.D.O.K  sows the seeds of a bitter harvest in 2015.
Hey All,

Sorry I've been away here for a while.  I'll be sharing some recent show work with  you soon here.  But, now there are more pressing matters...

It's 2015.  Also, it happens to be the first of March.  And, that means it's time for MODOK MADNESS!
So, for the next month I'll be sharing artwork with other talented folks over at www.marchmodokmadness.blogspot.com.
I warmly invite you to join in and celebrate this delightfully devious Jack Kirby creation.

More mindblasts to come.

Hope you dig.
